Takuya Kimura (木村 拓也, Kimura Takuya; April 15, 1972 – April 7, 2010) was a Japanese baseball player for the Yomiuri Giants. He previously played for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp before being traded to the Giants in 2006. He played for the Giants through the 2009 season before retiring as a player, returning to the Giants for 2010 in a coaching capacity. Kimura was born in Miyazaki, Miyazaki, Japan. He joined the Nippon-Ham Fighters from outside the amateur draft in 1990 after graduating from high school, and went on to become the leading utility player in Japanese baseball. His solid hitting, speed, and strong arm made him a valuable offensive and defensive player. He played games at every single position except pitcher, catching four games in the 1999 season. He played first base for one game in 1998. He was registered as an outfielder, but played more games in the infield in recent years. In 2004, he was recruited for the Athens Olympics for his skills as a utility player. He had the same name as Takuya Kimura of the popular Japanese pop group, SMAP. He once made an appearance on the television show SMAP×SMAP, hosted by his namesake. On April 2, 2010, at Hiroshima's Mazda Stadium preceding a game against the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, Kimura was hitting practice knocks to infielders when he suddenly collapsed and was rushed to hospital in a coma. He was diagnosed with subarachnoid hemorrhage and died in Hiroshima, Japan, on April 7, 2010. He died at age 37.

Until 2025 she represented the Osaka district and was a member of the Nippon Ishin no Kai (Japan Innovation Party). Umemura stated that she is a shukyo nisei, since her mother has been psychologically manipulated by a cult that was part of the Jehovah's Witnesses. On May 12, 2023, Umemura faced intense scrutiny over her statement about the death of Wishma Sandamali in a Nagoya detention facility in 2021 during the deliberation about the revision of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act. She remarked that "Wishma, as possibly told by the foreigner assisting group, might have a faint hope of parole [from deportation], should she fake her illness via hunger strike". That statement was immediately criticized by other members in the committee as "untrue" and "absurd". On May 18, 2023, Ishin Secretary-General Fumitake Fujita announced that Umemura was dismissed from her upper house judicial affairs committee assignment for her problematic remarks. Subsequently her Ishin party membership was suspended for 6 months effective from May 26, 2023. On June 28, 2025, she joined Sanseitō.

Uzi (pronounced as "Uji") is a popular Japanese hip-hop artist. He has released four major albums, most recently his “Natural 9” album released in March 2008. Uzi is one of the rappers to incorporate more overt elements of Japanese culture into his music and videos, specifically aspects referring to the samurai (to which he claims direct ancestry). He is a great example of an artist who maintains the localization of hip-hop music through his dependence on the incorporation of Japanese themes into his work. Such non-Americanization of his hip-hop music has been met with varying opinions; some view this as disrespectful of the origins of hip-hop culture, while there are those who appreciate Uzi’s apparent embracing of Japanese culture.
