Masanori Ohya (大矢 雅則, Ōya Masanori; born 1947) is a Japanese mathematician. After he received a Ph.D. in Mathematical Physics and Information Science and Dr.Sc., he continuously worked on operator algebra, quantum entropy, quantum information theory and bio-information. He achieved results in the fields of quantum information and mathematical physics. In particular, he proposed his version of quantum mutual entropy. Note this quantity is not the same as Holevo's chi quantity or coherent information, though each of them plays important role in quantum information theory. The information theoretic meaning of Ohya's quantum mutual information is still obscure. He also proposed 'Information Dynamics' and 'Adaptive Dynamics', which he applied to the study of chaos theory, quantum information and biosciences as related fields.

Tsutomu "Tom" Matano (Japanese: 俣野 努, Matano Tsutomu; October 7, 1947 – September 20, 2025) was a Japanese advertising agent, automotive designer and automotive journalist. Matano was born in Nagasaki, Japan, and continued to live in Japan until after his studies in university. He began an Analysis Engineering Major at Seikei University in Tokyo, Japan, in April 1965 and graduated in March 1969. Following his graduation, Matano moved to the United States in September 1970 via his uncle's container ship, landing himself in Seattle, then to Los Angeles, and finally New York City. Once in America, he continued his education with a semester of language school, ditching plans to transfer to Environmental Design, and graduated in 1974 for a job in Detroit with General Motors. Consequently, due to Matano's work visa and the rising oil crisis, GM moved him to Australia to work for Holden Design alongside Phillip Zmood, mostly working on the GM Holden Torana, departing in 1977 for Germany and BMW in Munich, Germany. In 1983, Matano joined Mazda as Chief Designer for Mazda North American Operations, then moved up to become the Vice President of Design and eventually the Executive Vice President of Western Operations for Mazda R&D North America, Inc., as well as the Executive Designer and Director of Mazda North American Operations. In his career with Mazda, his notable designs stand out in many vehicles, such as the Mazda RX-7, Mazda MX-5, the Miata "M-Coupe" concept car, and numerous other projects with his large group of design teams he created. Matano worked as a journalist for the Western Automotive Journalists. He also made an appearance in Gran Turismo 7. Matano died on September 20, 2025, at the age of 77.

Toshiaki Enoki (Japanese: 榎 敏明; born December 4, 1946) is a Japanese physical chemist. After earning his Ph.D. from Kyoto University, he was appointed as a research associate at the Institute for Molecular Science in 1977. His early research focused on the electronic and magnetic properties of organic conductors and graphite intercalation compounds , with particular emphasis on hydrogen adsorption into graphitic galleries. In 1987, he joined the Tokyo Institute of Technology (now the Institute of Science Tokyo) as an associate professor and was promoted to full professor in 1991. During this period, his research interests shifted toward graphene - a single atomic layer of graphite and related carbon-based materials, particularly nanosized graphene, or nanographene. Enoki’s primary focus became the unique geometrical dependence of nanographene sheets in determining their electronic and magnetic properties. In 1996, M. Fujita theoretically predicted the existence of a localized nonbonding state - known as an edge state at the carbon atoms along the zigzag edges of a graphene sheet. Enoki later confirmed the presence of this edge state experimentally using scanning tunneling microscopy, He has contributed to understanding of the electronic, magnetic, and chemical properties of nanographene and related carbon-based materials. Akiyama studied mathematics at the Tokyo University of Science, where one of his mentors was Takashi Hamada. He completed a graduate degree at Sophia University under the supervision of Mitio Nagumo, in differential equations, but soon shifted his interests to graph theory. He planned to take a position in Ghana, but after conflict there caused it to be cancelled he joined the faculty at Nippon Ika University, and then moved to the U.S. for 1978 and 1979 to work with Frank Harary at the University of Michigan. In the 1990s, his interests shifted again, from graph theory to discrete geometry. Akiyama is a founder of the Japan Conference on Discrete and Computational Geometry, Graphs, and Games (JCDCG3), the founding managing editor of Graphs and Combinatorics, and the author of the books A Day's Adventure in Math Wonderland (with Mari-Jo Ruiz, World Scientific, 2008), Factors and Factorizations of Graphs (with Mikio Kano, Lecture Notes in Mathematics 2031, Springer, 2011), and Treks Into Intuitive Geometry: The World of Polygons and Polyhedra (with Kiyoko Matsunaga, Springer, 2015). He is also the namesake of a Nintendo DS game, Master Jin Jin's IQ Challenge. Akiyama's lectures sometimes also include musical performances by him, on accordion or xylophone.
